This will doubtless come as a surprise to most people, but Montana doesn't exactly have what could be called a "Mediterranean" climate. Places that do have a Mediterranean climate are France, Italy, Greece, Israel, and California (among others). Which is probably why most raisins and wines and other grape products come from these regions.
I think it's something about the soils, precipitation, and lack of -40 degree weather. There are, however, a very few hardy varieties of grapes that, with a little tender care, can grow in Montana.
We have just such a vine, and today we had our first grape harvest.
Yeah, those are grapes. Not blueberries.

We got around 4 cups worth. Not bad for a two-year-old vine that had all visible flowers plucked off.
